First Class Lounge No. 3
- Complimentary snacks
- Complimentary soft drinks
There is nothing remotely thrilling about Guilin airport, a typical small Chinese utilitarian airport. The lounges are mostly in the same vein. The sister VIP Lounges by gates 9 and 11 are run by independent operators and are used by a flurry of airlines. China Southern, the major local carrier, is the only airline with a dedicated lounge.
First Class Lounge No. 3 KWL design
The small rectangular room at the VIP Lounge by gate 11 is only large enough for a handful of seats and sofas. The décor is a blast from the past, and the furniture, while comfortable, has seen better days. While there are no windows, the glass wall that separates the lounge from the terminal lets daylight light in. Next to every seat is located a small computer screen showing the next departures — an odd, but convenient design. Power outlets are available through splitters on the floor.
A notable issue is the noise from the virtually constant announcements in the terminal — during our two hour stay at this club we noted a mere five minute lull.
First Class Lounge No. 3 KWL amenities
The amenities are virtually non existent. There is no bathroom.
The very limited snack selection includes cookies, cherry tomatoes, and wrapped snacks. The bottled water and juices are a nice touch. No alcoholic beverages are available. On the upside, elegant china and silverware are available — an oddity given the underwhelming food selection and overall modest environment.
A few magazines are available on a rack by the door, and there is a single self-serve computer. The lounge does not offer Wi-Fi, but patrons may connect to the airport’s free network.
First Class Lounge No. 3 KWL bottom line
Overall, the VIP Lounge at Guilin airport by gate 11 merely provides a quieter and a more comfortable place to sit, away from the significant hustle of the terminal, although it may be difficult to find a seat at peak times. There are numerous ways to get access through membership programs (Lounge Club, Priority Pass, Airport Angel, etc.) but we do not recommend purchasing access if you do not have complimentary access. Note that it the club is full you may be directed to the VIP Lounge by gate 9.
- The reliable air conditioning, stronger than in the terminal.
- The comfortable, albeit worn, seats.
- The lack of a bathroom.
- The odd old fashioned design.
- The noise.
Overall ratings
There is just nothing worth mentioning besides that it’s quieter than the terminal, even when patrons are on their worst behavior.
