Shenzhen Airlines King Lounge – Xi’an, China (XIY)
Shenzhen Airlines joined Star Alliance in 2012 and brought along a small network of elegant lounges dubbed “King Lounge”. The King Lounge at Xi’an airport serves all Star Alliance airlines including the flag carrier Air China.

The King Lounge at Xi’An airport was visibly designed to impress. The opulent décor is perhaps a bit heavy handed for the western eye, with numerous “VIP” mentions including on pillows, elaborate lamps, reflective surfaces, and a rather massive light fixture as the center piece, but the space looks neat and modern overall and is spotless.
To the left of the reception desk is located an elegant dining area, with lamps and placemats. While it certainly looks good, the space is perhaps not as functional as it could be. It features only tables for four, whereas the majority of business travelers probably fly solo, and the buffet is located in the adjacent room in the main lounge area.

The buffet is particularly generous for a lounge that serves only domestic flights, with a selection of snacks, cold items, and hot entrees.
To the right of the reception desk is a large seating area divided by stylish wooden partitions, centered around a floor to ceiling designer light fixture atop a sculpture. A small seating area is cordoned off, perhaps for “true” VIPs 🙂
Other amenities include a small business center with PCs, as well as massage chairs.

Overall, the King Lounge at Xi’An airport is a beautiful lounge with solid amenities for domestic travel. Perhaps the only major caveat is the lack of natural light as the space does not have any windows.
