The Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt airport Terminal 2 is an independent club open to all passengers, regardless of airline or class of service, on a pay-in basis. American Express Platinum and Centurion card members are welcome on a complimentary basis. The location is the first foray of Plaza Premium, the world’s largest independent airport lounge operator, at Frankfurt airport.
The Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt airport was formerly known as the Sky Lounge. (The Sky Lounge used to accept Priority Pass, while the rebranded club does not.)
To reach the Plaza Premium Lounge, take the automated people mover to Terminal 2, make a right towards the D gates, walk to the end of the hallway, then the entrance will be on the right side. The lounge is located before the security checkpoint, and thus accessible to all passengers regardless of their departure terminal or destination. Customers departing from Terminal 1 should allow 45-60 minutes to reach their gate, as the trek involves a passport check when exiting Terminal 2, a hop on the train to Terminal 1, and then a security checkpoint at Terminal 1.
Plaza Premium Lounge FRA design
Road warriors may feel an oddly familiar vibe at the Plaza Premium Lounge: the club was originally built and operated by Delta Airlines, back when Frankfurt was a focal point on the carrier’s route map. Relatively little has changed over the years, and the lounge has preserved its old fashioned charm.
The expansive space benefits from ample daylight with two walls of windows, though the views are unremarkable as the club overlooks the airport’s transit system and facilities.
Guests have their choice of high-backed plush armchairs, solo seats, and dining tables. In the rear, to the right of the reception area, is a secluded quiet area outfitted with recliners and a few massage chairs.
Overall, the seating arrangement tends to favor groups over solo travelers, which is a common trait of older lounges. Low partitions and indoor plants provide a comfortable amount of privacy, though there is also ample undesirable overflow seating for peak times, with rows of chairs tightly packed together.
The granite coffee tables, purple chairs, and wooden partitions highlight an outdated vision of luxury. While old-fashioned, the club has been well maintained, and remains comfortable and serene. The lack of power outlets, however, is problematic. To charge up, look for a few plugs along the walls, or sit near the business center.
Plaza Premium Lounge FRA amenities
The Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt international airport Terminal 2 features a set of essential amenities.
The buffet offers a selection of tasty breakfast pastries in the morning; sandwiches, salads, and Frankfurters are available throughout the day. Patrons will also find a self-serve assortment of soda, German beer, wine, and liquor, as well as espresso.
Business amenities include complimentary one-click Wi-Fi access, a few work cubicles equipped with computers, as well as a selection of newspapers and magazines.
Shower suites are available and come stocked with towels and bath amenities.
Families with small children will find a game area on the left side of the lounge, with large table and a variety of toys and board games on loan. It’s unfortunate, however, that the game area is located next to the business center.
Plaza Premium Lounge FRA bottom line
The Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt airport Terminal 2 is a spacious all-purpose independent lounge with comfortable seating, a few secluded areas, and a modest but enjoyable food and beverage selection. The space would benefit from some upgrades and the addition of power outlets.
Located outside security, the Plaza Premium Lounge doubles as an unofficial arrivals lounge for long-haul passengers, with the option to enjoy breakfast on the ground and a shower, though access to the showers comes at an extra cost.
As far as independent lounges located outside security are concerned, the Plaza Premium Lounge is a substantially superior alternative to the LuxxLounge in Terminal 1. Just be sure to allow at least 20 minutes to reach your gate in Terminal 2, and up to 6 minutes to get to Terminal 1.
- The spacious seating area.
- The availability of games for families.
- The lack of power outlets.
