United Club – Washington Dulles (IAD) by gate C7
United’s ground facilities at Washington Dulles are dreadful. The twenty year old “temporary” terminal is supposed to be eventually demolished—even though there are still no plans for reconstruction—and thus hasn’t benefited from any significant upgrades.
At least, United Clubs are never too far away, with a choice of four locations in Concourses C and D. The United Club near gate C7 serves primarily passengers departing on intercontinental flights, but all clubs are similar and feature the same amenities.
United Club IAD design
The United Club at Washington Dulles near gate C7 was designed in a bygone era. The carpet and furniture were recently refreshed, but the space remains cramped and monochrome.

Unlike the clubs near gates C17 and D8, the United Club near gate C7 receives a fair amount of natural light and even offers limited tarmac views, though the low ceilings feel somewhat oppressive.
An spacious lobby greets guests. Beyond, a seating area is furnished with comfortable seats, a handful of egg chairs, and oversized work tables. Power and USB outlets are plentiful.
The bar is oddly tucked into a corner of the center section, flanked by a hallway and a buffet area. The layout creates traffic jams and blocks daylight. If United were to demolish the partitions and open up the space, the lounge would feel far more spacious and functional.
While Washington Dulles may not the the major gateway it once was, the airport remains a hub in United’s network. The lounges fill up: finding a seat at peak times can be challenging.
United Club IAD amenities
The United Club at Washington Dulles near gate C7 is a run-of-the-mill facility, with only basic amenities despite the proportion of international business class guests.

The buffet offers a selection of breakfast items, followed by snacks, soups and salads throughout the day. The food is tasty, though presentation is lacking and the selection is no substitute for a meal.
Soft drinks, tea, espresso, house wines and well drinks are complimentary, while premium drinks come at a cost.
Basic business amenities (Wi-Fi, printer) and work carrousels are available. Guests will also find a selection of physical and online newspapers and magazines.
The United Club does not any feature any international grade amenities such as showers.

The United Club at Washington Dulles airport near gate C7 is a functional but antique, barebones and typically crowded lounge.

Despite United’s dominant position at Washington Dulles airport, the airline’s ground product lags behind the competition: other airlines offer world-class amenities such as hot meals and showers. The situation is bound to improve when United eventually opens dedicated Polaris Lounge for international business class passengers, though the carrier hasn’t announced an opening date at this time.
For a bit more space to stretch out, consider visiting the nearby United Club near gate C17. United Club members and Star Alliance Gold passengers may also want to head over to Concourse B and enjoy the far superior Lufthansa Lounges or Turkish Airlines Lounge in Concourse B. But watch the clock: travel between Concourses B and C can take up to 15 minutes.

- United Club one-time pass holders (subject to capacity restrictions) (no guests)
- Active U.S. military personnel departing on a same day United flight (+family members)
- Air Canada Maple Leaf Club members departing on a flight operated by a Star Alliance carrier (no guests for Air Canada Maple Leaf Club North America members, +1 guest for Air Canada Maple Leaf Club Worldwide members)

- Passengers in domestic First class do not receive United Club access. United Business passengers flying on a Premium Service flight between San Francisco/Boston, San Francisco/Newark, or Los Angeles/Newark receive access at the origin and destination of their premium transcontinental flight.
- A government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport or military ID) may be required.
