Lufthansa Senator Lounge HAM design
The design of the lounge will immediately be familiar to Lufthansa‘s frequent flyers — a typical “former generation” club, the Senator Lounge sports a pretty industrial look and is spacious, convenient and functional but somewhat utilitarian. The lack of décor is balanced by indoor plants and a long window wall which lets plenty of natural light in and offers great views on the tarmac. Overall, the space feels bright, airy and welcoming.
A large lounge area features comfortable armchairs with a side table, lamp and powers outlets at every seat. In the back is a dining area with café style seating, as well as high tables with power outlets for laptop users. The layout is efficient but spacious. While the lounge doesn’t offer real private seating, the indoor plants offer a relative sense of privacy, and the bench by the buffet is somewhat isolated.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge HAM amenities
A unique feature of the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Hamburg airport is the spacious outdoor observation deck, which is sure to be a highlight for plane lovers. Enter through the discreet door right to the right of the high tables — the deck is always open, rain or shine. While Hamburg airport lacks in the widebody department, there is still plenty of tarmac action to be seen. Lufthansa has outfitted the deck with patio furniture and couches, so grab a drink and enjoy! Note that the deck is designated as a non-smoking area, but smokers benefit from similar views from the adjacent smoking room.
Lufthansa’s Senator Lounges typically shine in the food and beverage department, and the Hamburg lounge is no exception. The buffet offers a variety of snacks, appetizers, hot and cold entrees, and desserts. There is a wide selection of soft and alcoholic drinks including Champagne. The food is fresh and constantly replenished, and the selection sufficient for a quick meal on the ground. Considering that Lufthansa only operates short flights within the Schengen zone out of Hamburg, it is a pretty substantial offer.
Other amenities include a small business center with a few cubicles and self-service computers, a well-appointed smoking room with tables and windows offering a view on the tarmac, as well as newspapers and magazines. Tip: there are more magazines at the reception desk; inquire with the attendant when you come in.
The spacious bathrooms are shared with the adjacent Lufthansa Business Lounge and located in the reception area. The lounge does not have showers.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge HAM bottom line
Overall, the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Hamburg airport is a pretty typical non-hub Senator lounge. While the design fails to impress, the ample seating with power outlets throughout and the quality and variety of the food and beverage selection make for an enjoyable or productive stay. The open observation deck is a real treat for airplane lovers and anyone who’d like to relax in a less cookie-cutter environment.

Overall ratings
Plenty of seating, either restuarant-style on tables or in comfy chairs.
Selection of food and beverages is ok.
Free WLAN, selection of newspapers. TV and Flight information Display. Smokers-Room. Great Terrace with fantastic apron-view. Restrooms are ok.
Nice lounge.
Selection of warm and cold food, good choice of beverages.
Free WIFI, selection of regional, national and international newspapers. Smokers-room. Office-area with several work-desks.
Not the most exciting design, but an awesome open deck as well as great food and drinks.
OK lounge with quite friendly staff. Though the furniture is a bit dated and i did have the feeling that the lounge is not the most clean one, but it was also very crowded due to flight delays when I was there.
The open deck is great.
Somehow weired food selection, especially if you are vegetarian. The green salad was with ham (why?), a weired soup or sauce with egg.
Good selection of alcoholic beverages, including several different gins.
We were in the Senator lounge, which is supposed to be a bit more upscale. The seats are really worn out, there is zero ambiance, and the food looked cheap. Everything was a bit dirty, lots of empty dishes and glasses from guests before. Drinks were ok, but not Senator level. The feel was so bad that we left again for the regular restaurants in the normal gate area.
