The United Club at New York’s Newark Liberty Airport Terminal A serves United Express regional flights and welcomes club members and connecting international premium passengers. The lounge complements the club available in Terminal C near and C74.
The entrance is located in the hallway that connects the main terminal with United’s gates A20-A28 in the satellite building. After security, make a U-turn towards the exit and look for the blue glass door.
United Club EWR design
The United Club at Newark Airport Terminal A was completely remodeled early 2017, and is currently the only lounge at EWR to feature United’s new design. The main clubs in Terminal C still sport Continental’s legacy décor.
The glass door reveals an impressive lobby dominated by a large-scale picture of a United vintage aircraft flanked by a small waiting area furnished with electric blue egg chairs around a glass coffee table. Hanging designer ceiling lights add a vertical dimension to the ensemble.
Immediately behind the lobby is a seating area with booth seating and dining tables, and three rows of over-sized leather seats separated by side tables. While there is nothing remarkable about United’s club design, which favors soulless clean lines and white tones, and sheds local touches, the presence of two window walls gives the room a vibrant and dynamic appearance. Located away from the bar, and often skipped by patrons, the room behind the lobby tends to be quieter than the rest of the lounge.
Two pristine marble-clad hallways lead to the bar, buffet, and dining area. While the overall layout is pretty compact in order to maximize seating, along the windows are more intimate duos of seats, with elegant coffee tables and front-row views of the tarmac
What the plain looking bar lacks in visual appeal, it makes up with convenience: patrons will find built-in power outlets. Overall, power is readily accessible throughout the lounge, with USB ports and outlets near virtually every seat.
Behind a partition is a third room, also bathed in daylight, which sports an array of seating options including shared work tables, traditional lounge seating by the windows, and pods of egg chairs for casual conversation in a more intimate environment.
United Club EWR amenities
The United Club at Nework’s Newark airport Terminal A features a typical set of amenities, despite its focus on short-haul regional flights.
At breakfast time, patrons will find a selection of pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, as well as oatmeal or another hot item. Throughout the day, salads, hummus, soups, breads, and sweet treats are available. The spread is modest yet sufficient for a substantial snack.
Espresso, tea, hot chocolate, and a Coca-Cola freestyle machine, which makes hundreds of flavors of soda at one’s fingertips, are available. House wines, Prosecco, and well drinks are complimentary at the bar, while premium drinks and cocktails come at a cost.
Business amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi as well as a printer, located by the magazine rack in the rear work area. Guests needing to make phone calls will find two spacious enclosed phone rooms equipped with a chair, a desk, and a phone.
In addition to a selection of newspapers and magazines, United offers complimentary access to Foli, an online library of publications with the option to download content for offline reading.
It’s unfortunate, though hardly surprising, that recent remodeling of the club spelled the demise of the shower suites, which were a luxurious touch in a regional terminal. (The United Club near gate 120 still offers several shower suites.) Guests will however, find bathrooms with plenty of space to change, as well as a unisex/family bathroom.
United Club EWR bottom line
Modern, luminous, comfortable, and quiet, the United Club at New York/Newark Liberty Airport Terminal A is currently United’s best lounge at EWR, despite its location in the airline’s regional terminal.
Time permitting, the United Club in Concourse A makes an excellent alternative to the crowded and noisy lounges in Terminal C. Take the airside shuttle bus between gates C71 and gate A28, and allocate 20 minutes one way. Note that Concourse A does not offer pre-Check security; however expedited screening is available for eligible passengers.

- The comfortable seating and easy access to power outlets.

- Not much, frankly—we just wish the terminal C clubs were on par!
