  • Note: The United Club at Houston Bush airport in the Terminal C North re-opened in May 2017 after a complete makeover, on the heels of the unveiling of the newly renovated section of the terminal. With changes in the gate layout, the former C24 location is now near gate C1.

The new club sports United’s latest design with white tones, clean lines, power outlets at every seat, shared work desks, and a selection of salads and light fare throughout the day. We will update our review shortly.

United operates five lounges at their Houston Bush hub airport. The United Club in Terminal C North serves a mixture of mainline domestic flights and international flights – being relatively close to concourse D, it is often used by passengers on ANA and Turkish Airlines, both fellow Star Alliance members. All United Clubs are conveniently linked by an airside transit system.

    United Club design

The United Club in Terminal C North is strikingly similar to its sister location in Terminal C South – the two clubs are mostly mirrors of each other. All United Club lounges in Houston date from the Continental Presidents Club days; their design used to be elegant but will strike the modern eye somewhat old fashioned, with dark wood paneling, warm tones, and the occasional picture frame with abstract art.

The club benefits from plenty of natural light, thanks to a long window wall which also offers views on the tarmac.

The seating layout feels spacious and open yet relatively private, with groups of seats by the window separated from the central section by a large open space. Low partitions and indoor plants help foster a sense of privacy while letting light flow throughout the space. Most seats benefit from a side table or coffee table, though power outlets are lacking overall, and are occasionally inoperative.

Your experience may vary widely based on the time of the day – the club can be occasionally eerily quiet, while it sometimes get packed at peak times.

    United Club amenities

The food and beverage offering is typical of domestic United Clubs. In the morning, patrons will find a continental breakfast spread followed by snacks, soups, and salads throughout the day. Soft drinks including flavored water, house wines and well drinks are complimentary, while premium beverages may be purchased from the bar. Overall, the fare is simple but tasty. While it is no substitute for a full meal, it is perfectly acceptable for domestic travel.

A theater room is equipped with spacious and comfortable seats facing a TV, although the design is straight from the 1980s, and the television screen is tiny by today’s standards. Still, the room doubles as convenient place to catch a nap should you own a noise reducing headset.

A large baggage storage area is located by the reception desk; both open shelves and small lockers are available.

By the reception area is also a business center with isolated and quiet work cubicles. A shared fax/printer/copier is available.

Families benefit from a family room with a few seats, a small table for kids, and a TV. The door closes – to the relief of families and other patrons alike – but the room is otherwise devoid of toys or entertainment features.

The United Club C at Terminal C North does not have showers, but the South location, which features several shower suites, is located just a few minutes away.

    United Club bottom line

Overall, the United Club at Houston Bush Airport Terminal C North is a pretty basic but pleasant lounge, when it’s quiet. The design and amenities fail to impress, but the club delivers on all the basics – comfortable and relatively private seating, daylight and views, Wi-Fi and snacks. Unfortunately United’s lounge capacity in Houston barely meets peak time demands, so the club gets occasionally very busy. For showers, walk a few minutes over to the United Club at Terminal C South.
