The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport Terminal 2 in the non-Schengen zone by gate H24 welcomes Star Alliance Gold members, Lufthansa’s Miles and More Senator passengers, as well as Star Alliance First Class passengers. Lufthansa and SWISS First Class passengers may use the gorgeous First Class lounge right across, while business class passengers who don’t have status may use the adjacent Lufthansa Business Lounge.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC design
The Senator Lounge is divided into multiple areas, each featuring a slightly different design.
Immediately past the reception area is a large room with a dining area with café style seating, bar style seating, and recliners by the window. The design is simple yet pleasant, with hardwood floors and plenty of light stemming from the skylight and windows, although the lack of views is underwhelming: the lounge overlooks the immigration area. Power outlets are few and far between overall.
In the back beyond the bar is a seating area featuring the traditional Lufthansa Senator Lounge seats with side tables and power outlets throughout. Unfortunately, with dim lighting and no windows, the space is dark and feels somewhat cramped and unappealing, especially in contrast with the luminous first room. The area also tends to get painfully packed at peak times.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC amenities
The food and beverage selection is strong, with a broad selection of appetizers, salads cold and hot entrees, and desserts. German specialties are also available with meatloaf, pretzels, and potatoes, but patrons will also enjoy a variety of tapas style dishes, as well as soft drinks, a selection of wines, sparkling wine, and liquor. While the fare might be a bit on the “heavy” side in typical German fashion, lighter and healthier options are also available. The food is tasty and constantly replenished.
Immediately past the dining area is the highlight of the lounge: a complimentary bar with bartenders and baristas who will craft the delicious drink of your choice, spiced at your leisure. There’s something truly elegant and European about the high end espresso machine, colorful plates and cups, cane sugar, and assorted chocolates.
Shower suites are available by the reception desk; each suite comes with a shower, toilet, sink, and bath amenities. Do inquire as soon as possible, though; the facilities are shared with the adjacent Business Class Lounge and there is often a waitlist. The bathroom is also shared between the two lounges and a tad too small at peak times.
Weary travelers will appreciate the small slumber room with a few day beds. Sheets and pillows are available, however don’t expect complete privacy, and note that noise from the lounge may bleed in.
Other amenities include bag lockers in the reception area as well as a broad selection of newspapers and magazines.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC bottom line
Overall, the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport Terminal 2 in the non-Schengen zone offers a solid set of amenities: with a generous food and beverage selection, showers, a slumber room, a full bar and barista service, it is impressive in many regards. Yet, overall, the facility falls short of feeling luxurious, and might even underwhelm at the first glance. The lack of views, somewhat unappealing design, dark areas, small bathroom, and crowding at peak times fail to impress.
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge by gate H24 isn’t a destination, and we would argue that the Senator Lounge in the Schengen zone by gate G24 and the Senator Café are more attractive in many regards. Yet, don’t let first impressions deter you, and enjoy the amenities — there is something truly high class about enjoying a handcrafted beverage and a refreshing shower prior to a long flight.
